Most directorship boards are heavy with Financial and Legal professionals and limited on Sales, Marketing, Operational, and Commercial Excellence expertise. 

At the same time once a business has passed through that initial small business stage and is successful at getting to the 10 million Turnover mark boards can be reluctant to give away equity in the business to gain that expertise onto the board.
